arent we all blind sometimes?

i just read this really good interview - The Secret Life of Elijah Wood. and i'm pretty impressed. it struck me with its honesty, his honesty. (well, that's a breath of fresh air, *coughDBcough*.) especially the part about his dad. he has, on a superficial, we-don't-really-know-cos-we're-only-fans level, an SMG relationship with his dad, that is, the no contact kind. but SMG's really good at keeping her private life private so we dont know her feelings about it. plus he's dead, so that kinda closes the case, i suppose. but anyway, the interview fleshed him out - a mannequin instead of a card-board stand-up.

oh, and the thing about 'elijah' being a biblical name is brought up. by the guy of the same name.

and if you weren't gonna read it, can i persuade you by pointing out that this is the one where he talks about the word 'cunt', the cuntebago, etc.

Update: just read a whole load of posts about that article. there seems to be two camps -

camp 1. people who are totally disgusted bout the fact that he smokes and swears. "elijah is a potty mouth!"

camp 2. people who realise he's joe normal.

this is so amusing. in fact, i'm compelled to express my thoughts. camp 1. - disillutioned much? i swear, ticca swears, karen swears 24/7, you probably swear. (ticca: you can even be unbuff and still swear!) its not a big deal. in fact, its not even a deal.

smoking - there are these cliques out there against josh hartnett cos he got elijah into smoking. its not like lij has no brain. its called freewill - choice. all humans have it (unless you're late-little Alex in A Clockwork Orange). but does smoking make you a bad person? okay, smoking kills blah blah blah. but its one of those things that because so many people are addicted, its evil to deny them of cigarettes, therefore condeming it cannot be justified.

swearing - nothing against it. they're words that have lost their meaning due to overuse. so really, no harm. what about swearing being a bad influence to children? well, back to freewill. children's choice. if there happens to be bad influence, then you'll have to give good influence. surely if you believe that your course - the "good" - outweighs the "bad", then children should choose the "good".

therefore, swearing and smoking are pretty superficial things. they don't determine whether someone is fundamentally good or bad. the actual stuff he says in the interview should tell you that. and i think he's pretty decent. good/bad. good being a vague word. which could mean anything. exactly why i like it.

and Camp 2, who do you think he is? joe stuck in saintly, innocent, eight-years-old mentality?

actually, there's evidence of me being in Camp 1 once upon a time. remember saying that i was naive. that was 5th feb.

and this is what you get when you sit a caffine-fixed, sugar-high, elijah wood-obsessed, bored, amateur religious studies/philosophy (thats what they call the RS department now) student at a computer in 12:49 am. she turns into a deranged, possibly incoherent Carrie in Sex and the City. there's Carrie: "Does a woman in the 21st century want a knight in shining armour?" then there's Me: "Does smoking and swearing make you a bad person?" me obviously being more deep.

I don't want to dissect everything today
I don't mean to pick you apart you see
But I can't help it

now i'm quoting alanis morrisette. i feel like a fraud. yeah, yeah, kudos to karen and ticca for getting me into alanis, blah blah blah. shut me up already!
