hello. i went to the �design show� today with my DT buddies chess and rach (not to be confused with my french/choir buddy rache-with-an-e) and my non-DT buddy denni. it is known officially as new designers 03 , but we didn�t know that. this is a tradition started exactly one year ago (freaky!) when i went with rach (everyone else went the day before).
the business design centre was exactly as i remembered it, but one thing i completely forgot about was the intolerable heat. it was bad. there was much sweating.
since i am not a design student anymore (chess and rach still are, however), i was not stressed by the prospect of asking the designers/graduates questions. a nice man did show us his cabinet when we commented on how smooth it was. he also showed us his friend�s inflatable chair.
denni the art student (although no more) was not completely left out (like we�re that professional anyway) because we went to the illustrative art section, which was wonderful because it was air conditioned and there were very nice post cards to collect. i have a big fat pile, but not as big as last year, cos i didn�t know what to get back then. so inexperienced.
rach, denni and i saw a friend of amy's who is in the year above and her friend. "what are you doing here?" they said. "research?"
"yeah" we said. except i'm not doing it next year and denni never did DT GCSE. we were gonna ask them, but then they're doing DT A level next year. geeks bumping into each other.
cool things i noticed were: a golf ball dispenser (really clever, that one), a painting by numbers chair, complete with pots of paint and brushes, a light which fades/turns on and off by touch and illustrations by louise ho.
the annoying thing was that as the place was full of design students, i contantly had double takes of thin, dark-haired, glasses-wearing young men. very stressful.
afterwards, i went to starbucks with chess and then we went to her house and then my family had dinner with her family. we�re gonna try hard to see each other again before she leaves on wednesday. maybe i�ll show her the RUTH videos. the donnie darko plan is fast fading, though.
last night/wee hours of this morning, i got a 1571 message from nay saying good-bye to me. she called me at 6 pm. i texted her to ask if i could call her after shabbat, so we had a nice last conversation just now. it breaks my heart.
