just saw stealing beauty with liv tyler. it by the same director of little buddha and the last emperor, which i actually liked - bernardo bertolucci, something like that. as usual, he relies on the beauty of the protagonist and the scenery. here, its liv tyler and tuscany, in little buddha, it was keanu reeves and the indian palace and the monastry, in the last emperor, it was the emperess and the forbidden city.

no substance.

the story goes thus: liv tyler, a 19 year old american, goes to tuscany to find her real father with a few lines of poetry that her dead mother wrote. she lives in this close knit community of horny old english people and italians, except for one little girl.

that's about it. one more thing: jeremy irons. he was sexy, albeit old. but he was dying and got put into hospital, which was not fun.

another theme - she's the only virgin in the town so she has to lose her virginity in the film, duh. so it was like watching bansai: place your bets now! i was wrong. she went for the good guy - my second choice; which was nice, but boring for the storyline. at least it wasn't the repulsive player jerk she had a crush on when she she was 15, who didn't even recognise her.

moral of the story: all men are perverts (except the one who wrote the letter you loved so much, you learnt it off by heart, beause that it love and a whole other story), especially the director bernardo bertolucci, (who i now have a personal vendetta against) who made her wear a short floaty dress and run around in the wind. every shot is of her face, hair or legs.

liv tyler and jeremy irons are good. watch it for them.
