arent we all blind sometimes?

buffy is the worst show on TV according to the parents television council. in the past, i liked mocking these sites and reading their reviews to get the good bits of films and TV programs.

buffy and angel have always been on the 'most offensive' list, but this time they overstepped the line. this article was inaccurate and the author obviously does not understand the main themes of the show. (they did miss the various obvious drug analogies) therefore, i need to vent:

anyone who watches buffy will know that it promotes more values and morals than 'dawson's creek'. its like an updated 'waltons' with metaphors.

the violence represents the fight between good and evil and the sex is... well, sex. open your eyes, good morning! you can't shield your children from the realities of this world.

responsible parenting involves guidance and education, not censoring. this world is full of evil and children need to understand that and why people are like that. merely ignoring the evil in the world, or sheltering kids from it can only increase their curiosity and chance that they are seduced into twisted morals.

anyway, you'd think that "parents" like that would recommend a show that says, "if you sleep with a guy, he's gonna turn evil." (yeah, i just saw 'passion').

the site is full of contradictory blurb:

In the 2001 season finale, Buffy committed suicide, jumping to her death to save the world.

key clause: "save the world". i believe the operative terms are "self-sacrifice" or "final sacrifice". most societies and cultures consider that a noble thing. she did NOT commit suicide. there is a difference between people who want to die because they do not value their lives, and people who were born to fulfill their duty, which is to save the world. these people realise the value of their lives - the value of the earth and everything in it. death is her gift.

here is where to send your complaints or flames. go nuts. knock youself out.

added:

'frasier' was given a yellow light. there is no violence, so little, little sex (the occasional morning after) and no swearing (not if you count 'hell'). all the characters get their come-uppance at the end of the episode and still they give it 'caution'. what for?

even 'dawson's creek' was given a red ight. apparently, they deal with sex too casually. well, if you mean joey, who considered having sex for a whole season going to the family planning clinic every week and eventually realising that sex doesnt necessarily make everything a-okay, well, you'd be so very wrong. and they gave it a red light for profanity because they use euphemisms for, heavens forfend, the f-word! ticca, doesnt 'eu' in greek mean good?

'six feet under' isn't even in there. now that's a show that children shouldnt watch. people having casual sex and doing drugs with no repurcussions, and oh my god! was that the f-word? i think they are in denial about it as it completely breaks their scales.

at the end of the day, does sex, violence and profanity (the only three criteria) really matter compared to relationships and moral values? and how about drugs, prejudice and other issues like them? are they not as important? this group seems to focus too much on the superficial rater than moral messages the programs are giving out.

and this might turn into RS if i mention the word 'moral' one more time. so i'm done.
