arent we all blind sometimes?

today was a good day. i bought (because i'm into books now, because living with Amy and Wongsiu has made me literate - i read Ella Minnow Pea in the wee hours of this morning. it's good, read it):

Tommy's Tale by Alan Cumming - there is a funny photo of him throwing shiny discs (sequins?) on the front inside cover,

Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss because of various LJ friends and

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, which i couldn't find because it was on the Bestsellers bit of Waterstones where i was too blind to look.

oh, and a little book about insulting foreigners in their native tongue. i'm having difficulty with the Cantonese bit...

and then we ran nextdoor to Coffee Republic to laugh at the very wet Ash, Mads and Meera. ha ha ha. reminising is so fun, especially when it involves recalling chants that are sung at loud volumes. "Vi! Viva! Viva la vista! Como la, como la, como la vista. O-o-o-o-o la vista..." <<

i've never understood the staff at Coffee Republic. i thought they were just strange, but no one else has problems ordering coffee with them. i asked for a Chai Freezer. "in this weather?!" said the boy. and then he asked me, "do you want it dressed or undressed?" what sort of question regarding an icy beverage is that? i looked bewildered. and nodded. and smiled. and thanked him. then he said something else which completely flew over my head so i did the nodding smiling thanking thing again. one day this routine will not work and my idiocy will be revealed to the world. (as if it hasn't already)

Mads is Cool. her mum is Cooler, ha ha. she drove Wongsiu and i to my ex-neighbour's house because i forgot to give back the key when i left. i told Ed (ex-neighbour, whom i used to call Eddie, but has grown up to monosyllabic-ness) about the CoffRep incident and he said, "did the guy have blond hair, sort of cropped?" then he gestured cropped. yes he did. i was expecting some story about how he was dropped on the head as a baby and so was not able to talk about coffee as normal folks do, but CoffRep recruited him because they are an Ethical coffee house, unlike Starbucks, whose woman/mermaid logo stikes me frighteningly sinister. alas, Ed is a boy of few words and had no such anectdote to recount except that he knew him.

oh and i went to look for other ex-neighbour Cathy, but she wasn't in and i had a nice chat with a man (her boyfriend? brother?) about Dick & Dom (omg i love them). because Cathy has small children, see. it amuses me that grown men are knowledgable about Dick & Dom.

to Ribbons & Lace (my fave skool!!!!1!) Open Day tomorrow. Ash is going to give me a tour. essentially tomorrow left. argh!

<< O-o-o-o-o la vista! >>
