i'm trying to do my english on donna tartt's the secret history. i'm doing it on pleasure and self-destruction, violence and all that. so i'm doing research on bacchus, or dionysis, the god of wine, pleasure, fun etc.

put "bacchus dionysis bacchanal" into google. first result was a gay holiday resort in palm springs called bacchanal. great. you name a resort after a ritual frenzy. why not call it 'ultimate orgy' resort or something?

this is so whacked. i just read that dionysis was the prototype for christ. the whole eucharist, bread and wine = flesh and blood thing is from him, and the festival the jews celebrate at the time of the birth of christ was somehow related to him and that dionysis is indoctrated into the jewish belief system. afterall, christianity has aspects of both greek religion and judaism.

scary. i just read bits of the bacchae by euripides. a bunch of dionysis followers rip open and eat the son on their leader.

isnt that enough work for one day.
