so i'm an insomniac. sue me.

reason for my typing in this stupid, ungodly hour is cos i've just finished reading The secret History and yeah, chess and miss english were right. this is one amazing book. thing that confuses me a bit, when was it set? late eighties to early nineties? its pretty modern and was published 1993, but the stuff the 'clique' wore; furs and suits, umbrella? perhaps i'm not used to it. afterall, they wear suits in Eton and in that Skulls movie wit josh jackson.

but back to book praising. i read the last fifth of the book this night/morning and there were still lots of twists. wierd that i've been totally manipulated to think exactly the way richard naively does, and then suddenly, everyone's telling you, "oh, yeah henry and julian, they're evil" when they've been all benevolent all through the story.

also the moment when julian sees the letterhead and says "well, well well well," but he doesnt do anything about it. that could be seen as really bathetic, but at that moment you realise that they could get away with it, but of course, things were so messed up that they would probably kill each other or attempt to anyway. and thats pretty much what happens. the fact that i'd read the ending several times before and after starting the book, and found out that henry commits suicide didn't really spoil the story at all cos finding out how it happens was pretty exciting on its own.

plus, there was the thing with arthur miller, when writing A View from the Bridge, he was so obsessed with telling the story in the way of a greek tragedy. he said sth. like: "it doesnt matter what happens, but how it happens." and the eplilogue was pretty cool too, how all the other characters got on. i liked judy poovey. she was cool. and who would've thought that charles would end up most messed up. and there, i have succeeded in trivialising the best novel i've ever read.

and a note to ticca: contains incest and gayness. read it.

homosexuality + incest + way too many characters = huge fanfic potential.

also, on a totally superficial note, how cool would i look reading that on, like, the MTR in HK? like, how intellectual would i look with a thick novel that has words like 'cerebral' on the back over? wow, i am bowled over by the vanity and fakeness that is me.

so pissed off. wrote like 10 more signs of bloomwood loving and got deleted when computer crashed.

Update on the bloomwood kiss/hug/grind(?) in london FOTR premiere. some really clever person suggested that they were actually taking the piss out of Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck's scene in Armageddon; when she jumps on him and he starts singing the 'jet plane' song, then all of them join in. very probable as well. ever wonder why they seemed to be doing it right in front of Liv, no-one else, and that she was laughing her ass off? very clever.

shit, birds are chirping, its 5:42.
