oh bathos! oh anti-climax of the term! DT was supposed to be in for today. he didnt even mention having it in. ever. probably because only one person has finished it. the rest of us are nowhere. so. still have loads to do. thank god.

tomorrow is the end of term and i have RS homework? save me.

tommorrow, i'm also probably going to pizza hut after school then we're gonna see ali g in da house. wanted to see ocean's 11, or LOTR again, possibly gosford park, but ali g in a film doesnt interest me that much. its one of those things you watch when its on, and going to a cinema especially to see it doesnt qualify. however, he is v funny and apparently orlando bloom is in it, so i guess thats fine. still recovering from LOTR high so wondering if it'll piss me off.

computer is messed up. so is AOL.

clara: shame i couldnt see you make a fool out of yourself, but i dont have real player. you certainly looked the most clueless there, the only one with a slip of paper. hahaha. that wasn't nice. sorry. ahem.

saw a debate on monday. motion: this house believes that bombing is the only way to combat terrorism. the year above proposed. we opposed. they won. i was a bit clueless cos i missed the motion (so this is a guess). as the proposition gave their closing speech, the speaker used an analogy where the terrorists are weeds and to destroy them completely you have to kill them even if surrounding plants are killed too (re: possible inaccuracy of the bombs). there was the rub. it dawned on me what i had known all along. bombing is like tearing off the leaves of the weeds. they are no longer visible, but the roots are still intact and will germinate more weeds. even if all the terrorists were killed, the idea that western capitalism is evil, therefore fighting against them is holy would still be present. all the people who cheered when the twin towers collapsed weren't terrorists, yet they believe in the same cause. merely killing terrorists does not destroy that idea they fought for. it would even make them martyrs. the next generation might grow up to commit more terrorism, maybe even more atrocious acts, as they can learn from the events happening now.

treating the syptoms of a disease would not ensure recovery. bombing only stops the people who act on the idea. to solve the problem we need to understand the idea and show that it is wrong.

passionate, huh? might have won if i'd thought of it sooner. maybe i should take this up.

<< debate, huh? >>
